John Glenn School Superintendent Richard Reese updated on the school board on the progress of the sale of property donated to the school corporation by the Hiler family.
The property at 125 Shamrock Street was donated to the corporation at the end of 2015. The school board accepted the property then on behalf of the corporation. The property will be donated to the newly formed John Glenn Educational Foundation with the intention that the proceeds from the property sale will benefit the foundation.
Reese updated the board with the number of steps needed to be taken to complete the sale of the property. First, the school board needs to determine that the real estate is no longer needed for school purposes. The board members did unanimously vote in favor to determine the property is of no use to the school corporation for educational purposes.
With that vote taken, the process can move along to try and expedite the sale. There is a prospective buyer for the property and the buyer would like to take possession at the end of April. Reese said more research will be done in order to accommodate the buyer. He did say that since the school is essentially a government property, the sale may take more time than anticipated.
