The Town of Culver has scheduled its spring clean-up day, but a lack of volunteers means it may be the only one for the year. In the past, the town has held two clean-up days, one in the spring and one in the fall. The town rents dumpsters and gives residents the chance to dispose of some of their junk.
Town officials say that when the event started, high school volunteers did the majority of the work, with town employees supervising. However, they say the number of volunteers has dwindled to the point where several town employees now have to be paid overtime to run the event.
The town council voted Tuesday to schedule the spring clean-up day for Saturday, May 13. Meanwhile, council members are considering ways to encourage organizations to volunteer in the future.
The dates for this year’s town-wide garage sales were also announced during Tuesday’s meeting. Clerk-Treasurer Karen Heim noted that the town council voted last year to keep the garage sales on the last Friday and Saturday of April and September. That means this year, they’ll be held April 28 and 29, and September 29 and 30.
