Marshall County may soon be looking at a big equipment purchase for its highway department. Highway Supervisor Jason Peters told the county council Monday the department’s paver needs a substantial amount of work. “We’re looking at about $50,000 just to replace components on our paver to get it up to standards to pave,” he said. “The estimated value on that paver is about $10,000, is what they’re offering on a trade-in.”
He says the paver’s about 17 years old, and parts are nearly impossible to find. Peters has researched several options, including refurbishing the existing paver, renting a paver, or buying a used one. However, the council voted to support the idea of buying a new paver.
Based on the two bids the highway department’s gotten, the cost would be over $300,000. However, financing would be available to spread that cost out over seven years.
