Marshall County is moving ahead with the purchase of a $308,000 paver for the highway department. Caterpillar submitted the lower of the two bids the county received.
A sales agreement with the company was approved Monday by the county commissioners. Highway Department Administrator Laurie Baker says that will allow the new paver to be ordered. “Your financing agreement on it probably won’t come until May,” she explained. “I think delivery, they’re estimating June 1, so it’ll probably be sometime in May when we’ll have the actual lease-purchase agreement.” The county plans to spread its payments out over seven years to lesson the impact on its budget.
The highway department’s current 17-year-old old paver is thought to be worth about $10,000, but Highway Supervisor Jason Peters says he hasn’t decided yet how exactly to dispose of it.
