The Culver Town Council last week signed off on the substantial completion of the town’s water treatment plant project.
Mark Sullivan with Midwestern Engineers told the council the project is essentially done, save for tracking down a chlorine leak he says should be an easy fix.
The council agreed to release the retainage of slightly less than $60,000 for the project, with a stipulation that final payment will not be made until the leak is fixed.
The final cost for the project was just under $1.2 million and was only over budget by about $1,100.
A few additions do need to be made to the project, though, and will be paid for out of the town’s utility fund. A T connection needs to be added to the force main so lines can be checked annually, and the state wants the backwash pipe to be raised slightly. Rubber will also be attached to control splashing. Both should cost the town less than $5,000. The council agreed to cover the cost from the utility fund if that is the case.
An open house will be scheduled soon at the water treatment plant to showcase the recent upgrades.
