The Town of Culver may soon be raising some utility fees. An updated water rate ordinance was introduced during Tuesday’s town council meeting.
While it doesn’t increase the water rate itself, Culver is looking to raise revenue in other ways. That includes a tap charge for customers being connected to the water system, in the amount of $900, $1,100, or more, depending on the size of the installation. “Basically, we were collecting less than it was costing to put those in,” said council president Ginny Bess Munroe. “So thus the ordinance change.”
Likewise, the cost for a new water meter would go up to $225 for smaller meters or the cost of materials for larger ones. The town would also charge $10 for bad checks, to match increases in the fees charged by the town’s bank.
No comments were offered during a public hearing Tuesday on the proposed changes. Final approval is expected at the next town council meeting.
