The Plymouth man who admitted to beating his girlfriend’s toddler to death for wetting the bed will learn his fate today in a Marshall County courtroom. Shane Weeding entered a guilty plea to murder during a Sept. 13 court appearance in connection with 2-year-old Serenity Wilson’s death last September at the Economy Inn Motel in Plymouth. Weeding was living there with her mother, Krysti Lavanway, according to court documents.
Investigators say Lavanway’s delay in getting medical care for Serenity resulted in the child’s death after 27 hours of intensive medical care. An autopsy confirmed she died of blunt force head trauma. Lavanway is serving a 35-year prison sentence.
Weeding faces up to 65 years in prison for murder and will be sentenced on what would have been Serenity Wilson’s fourth birthday. In exchange for his guilty plea, neglect of a dependent and possession of marijuana charges were dropped.
