Indiana Department of Insurance Disputes Reports of Premium Declines

Indiana is not immune from rising insurance premiums, according to the Indiana Department of Insurance.

The department took issue with a news story from CNN earlier this week. It said that premiums on the insurance exchanges will increase by an average of 22 percent in 2017, but that in Indiana rates would actually decrease by three percent. Those figures were based on the cost of the silver plan for a 27-year-old enrollee, according to the CNN story.

However, the Indiana Department of Insurance says the average rate on the Indiana Marketplace is set to increase by nearly 19 percent from this year’s rate, based on current enrollment. The department adds that four insurance carriers have withdrawn from the Indiana Marketplace.
