The Marshall County government has decided to move ahead with a bulk-purchasing contract for food served at the county jail.

At their meeting on October 3rd, the County Commissioners were approached by a representative of HPS, a non-profit specializing in bulk purchasing. The group conducted an analysis on the previous month’s food purchases and determined a six percent savings could be available for the county government.

Under the proposal, Marshall County would sign a contract with HPS in addition to their contract with food supplier Gordon Food Service. That would allow certain products to be changed to less expensive options. In addition, HPS says their purchasing power may be able to reduce the price on other items

The discount received would be applied to the monthly invoice submitted to the county through Gordon Food Service. The savings total more than $5-thousand in the county’s pocket.

On Monday, the Commissioners revisited the issue to consider formally entering into contract with the group. The commissioners approved the contract, unanimously.

HPS has 3,600 members in 14 states.
