The Plymouth School Board had the chance to learn more about Lincoln Junior High School’s Digital Storm mass media program. Students had the chance to discuss the program during Tuesday’s school board meeting.
As part of the Digital Storm program, students share information about events going on at the school, but also occasionally go out and interview community members. In addition to lessons on media as a whole, the students also break off to focus on their own specialty areas, like publicity, television, radio, video production, and web design. While gaining skills in these areas, several students reported that the program has also improved their communication skills and increased their confidence level when speaking in public.
This past spring, Digital Storm took home two national awards from the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System and was a finalist for several more. The students pointed out that Lincoln Junior High School was the only middle school to receive awards at the competition’s high school level.
