Marshall County continues working to complete work at the Marshall County Health Department.
During Tuesday morning’s Marshall County Commissioners meeting, representatives of SRKM architecture out of Warsaw presented an update on the plans. The health department is in need of additional space after the county determined that the prosecutor’s office was in greater need for room inside the Marshall County building.
Brent Martin with SRKM says the recommended firm has worked with the architects before.
“Both of those have been very successful projects and I don’t have any concern about their ability to complete the work,” says Martin.
The idea has been discussed for a few years, but received approval by the Marshall County Council earlier this year.
Officials with Marshall County were aware reshuffling some of its department’s would have a cost. Bids for the work were presented Tuesday morning with the low bid selected for the work. It is expected to carry a cost of $152-thousand. The commissioners said during the meeting the bids were higher than anticipated.
The move allows for the Marshall County prosecutor’s department to expand its offices – something that has been a continual process over the last several years. The Health Department would use space at the Community Resource Center.
Martin preempted some of the concerns by explaining the reasoning behind the increased storage specifications.
“Right now [the health department] store[s] in several spots in this building, so that consolidates their storage all in one suite,” says Martin.
Alternate bids included a conduit to allow for metronet fiber optic cable to be run to the building, as well as a generator.
The commissioners approved the bid on a 2-1 vote. Commissioner Deb Griewank voted against the bid cost. Work is expected to take around 90 days.
