The City of Plymouth is hoping for some commitment from city employees who receive specialized training at the city’s expense.
Utility Superintendent Donnie Davidson told the Board of Works Monday that Plymouth typically helps new employees who’ll be driving city-owned vehicles get the necessary Commercial Driver’s License, “We’ve done that in the past and kind of got the feel that we’ve been the training ground, and then once they receive their driver’s license, then they move onto better jobs, which is good.”
Now, Davidson’s working with City Attorney Sean Surrisi to work out a policy they believe is more fair for the city. “What we want to do is to somewhat protect ourselves and have a commitment from the employee that if we get them licensed and if they leave within two years, then they’re responsible in reimbursing us of those expenses,” Davidson said.
No formal action has been taken by the Plymouth Board of Works at this point in the process.
