The Town of Culver is ready to move ahead with a few street projects now that Community Crossings grant funds have been received.
During a special session on Tuesday afternoon, the Town Council considered bids received for two projects. Paving is planned for Main Street in Culver between Madison and Davis Streets.
Culver Town Manager Jonathan Leist says they have financial constraints on this project.
“This is the project we received the 50% matching Community Crossings grant for and we would have to use the special LOIT distribution for our match,” says Leist.
Culver received $76-thousand through the Community Crossings grant program. Funding was developed by the Indiana General Assembly earlier this year for infrastructure improvements around the state.
The Town Council accepted the low bid, costing $146-thousand for the project.
The second project Culver intends to complete is paving Obispo Street from Davis to Batabano Streets. Leist says there’s a catch on the bids for this project.
“One note on that one, E&B [Paving] did offer a $5,900 deduction from their bid price if both Main Street and Obispo Street were done at the same time,” says Leist.
The Town Council accepted the bid for $100-thousand.
Now that the special LOIT distribution has been received, the Town Council also gave permission to use the money for its intended purpose. Projects are expected to begin in the foreseeable future.
