Bourbon Police to Participate in Enforcement Campaign

Drive sober or get pulled overOfficers from the Bourbon Police Department will be taking part in an upcoming grant funded Operation Pull Over blitz. The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign gets under way Aug. 12 and concludes Sept. 5.

During that time officers from participating agencies will conduct sobriety patrols and checkpoints around the clock to discourage drunk driving.

Bourbon Police Officer Matt Geiger says ensuring drivers and their passengers are safe on the road is one of his department’s key priorities. He says campaigns like this provide a good opportunity to remind everyone behind the wheel that driving while intoxicated is against the law.

Last year there were 4,828 alcohol-impaired collisions in Indiana, resulting in 92 fatalities, according to the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. That represents a 26.5 percent decrease in the number of alcohol-impaired collisions, and a 9 percent drop in resulting fatalities from 2014.
