Plymouth Schools Ready for New Emergency Protocol

Plymouth High SchoolThe Plymouth Community School Corporation will be implementing new protocols for managing an active shooter or other dangerous situation on their grounds.

Ted Brown, director of safety and security for the school corporation, recently attended training in Fort Wayne – which was put on by the Department of Education for school safety officers. During the presentation Brown found that using “Standard Response Protocols” will allow Plymouth more flexibility when dealing with any potentially deadly situations.

Specific vocabulary will be used to direct students, teachers, and staff as to how the situation is being managed in any given environment. When a lockdown is occurring, where students are supposed to be, or where they’re moving are also included.

According to the Plymouth School Corporation, the Standard Response Protocol can be easily understood with minimal training. Brown says he has already met with local police, fire, and EMS to educate all parties involved in an emergency situation on the process.
