Stabbing Suspect Sentenced to 12 Years Following Guilty Plea

Gavel 2A Plymouth man was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in a 2015 stabbing.

According to the Marshall County Prosecutor’s office, 33-year-old Robert James was arrested after Plymouth Police were called to the 500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue on March 29th, 2015.

A resident at the apartment indicated James had stabbed a visitor inside one of the units. Officers approached the apartment door, but when James answered, he was covered in blood. A struggle ensued with officers, but James was arrested.

The victim was located in the bathroom of the apartment after shouting for help. He was transferred to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center for stabilizing treatments and later transferred to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for additional care. It was learned stitches and other treatment were administered for 26 stab wounds to the victim’s abdomen, neck, face, and arms. The victim survived the incident.

The Marshall County Prosecutor’s office says later investigation revealed the suspect and the victim had been drinking throughout the day inside the apartment and began fighting over a woman who resided at the residence.

After initially being charged with Attempted Murder, James pleaded guilty to reduced charges of Aggravated Battery on Wednesday.

Judge Robert Bowen sentenced James to 12 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections. He will serve eight years of that sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
