Plymouth Schools Continue Facilities Upgrades

PlymouthFootball2Work is still progressing on a facilities upgrade project at the Plymouth School Corporation.

Construction was started earlier this year on the football field and the administration building, but the Plymouth School Board received an update on the project on Tuesday night. Superintendent Dan Tyree says the expansion of the school corporation’s administration building got back on course after a bit of a hiccup rerouting city water pipes.

“Then they came in and put in the forms and laid the footers, smoothed out the ground, and as you can see, the footers are well below where the ground around it is,” says Tyree.

The construction work has an estimated completion date of November 1st. The school corporation lost one month due to the placement of the footings on top of the water lines.

Work still needs to be done to direct water to flow away from the building. The current placement of the expansion creates drainage problems for the school corporation, otherwise. Trusses have been delivered, but are not yet ready to be constructed.

At the football fields, the press box was constructed earlier this week. Electrical work needs to be completed for heating, air conditioning, and scoreboard operation. Tyree says the bleachers are coming along as well.

“The bleachers are almost done.,” says Tyree. “There were a couple of steps that didn’t come in correctly so they’re having to replace them, but it’s in pretty good shape.”

A bleacher jersey for the stadium seating will arrive closer to the start of the football season.

Work to the concession stand, ticket office, entrance gate, and the restroom is preparing to install finishes for the second course of block work.
