Plymouth Teen in Critical Condition Following Weekend Crash

police-lightsThe driver in a single-vehicle crash on Sunday in Marshall County has been listed in stable but critical condition.

The incident occurred just before 5:30 a.m. on May 1st when an off-duty South Bend firefighter medic noticed a vehicle off the south side of Veterans Parkway at U.S. 31.

16-year-old Alex Rostron was identified as the driver of the vehicle, and the only occupant. Investigators believe Rostron was traveling home from a post-prom party around Plymouth when the car traveled off the south side of the roadway.

The vehicle allegedly struck the bottom of the ditch line where the majority of the damage was incurred. The blue Honda proceeded to hit a fence before coming to a final stop.

Rostron was able to exit the vehicle according to a collision report. It is not known how long the driver was lying in the ditch or when the crash occurred when the vehicle was found.

The teen was transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for medical treatment. Alcohol was not present at the scene, but medical tests for alcohol are pending.

An investigation is ongoing.
