Plymouth to Take First Steps Toward Sewer Rate Increase

Plymouth IndianaThe Plymouth Common Council will start the process of raising sewer rates tonight. A sewer rate ordinance will be presented for first reading. Accounting firm Umbaugh and Associates has recommended a 17-percent increase to fund upgrades to the city’s Wastewater Treatment Plant, while continuing to cover day-to-day operations and existing debt payments.

Meanwhile, the council will consider funding arrangements for the rebuilding of the tennis courts at Centennial Park. Last month, the Common Council voted to contribute an additional $329,000 to the project. Tonight, council members will decide whether to transfer money from the Cumulative Capital Development and Cumulative Capital Improvement funds into the Tennis Court Project Fund, to cover that cost.

Tonight’s Plymouth Common Council meeting starts at 6:30 p.m., or immediately following the Board of Works meeting.

During its meeting, the Board of Works will consider funding for the second phase of the Greenway Trail project and for the geotechnical analysis for the Safe Routes to School Project. A portion of those costs is expected to be covered by the Indiana Department of Transportation.

The board will also discuss the city’s application for INDOT funding for improvements to Hoham Drive in the coming years. Also during tonight’s meeting, bids will be opened for this year’s street and sidewalk projects, and the board will consider a recommendation to formally select Kokosing Industrial as the construction contractor for the Wastewater Treatment Plant improvement project.

Tonight’s Plymouth Board of Works meeting starts at 6:00 p.m.
