It’s a rare evening meeting for the Marshall County Council this week.
According to the agenda, the Marshall County Commissioners will request the Council consider a move of the County’s Health Department. The maneuver has been briefly discussed in the past.
The Commissioners will also bring their recommendations from Marshall County’s various communities advising their preference on local taxing options to better fund local road improvements and economic development.
The Commissioners have spent weeks developing the resolutions and collecting input from local governments. The Marshall County Council, however, has the final say on any taxes that are applied for road improvements.
Applying local taxes implies a long-term funding solution to aid in the maintenance and improvement of the county’s roadways. The state of Indiana has decided to provide millions in local road funding, but a long-term solution at the state level is anticipated during next year’s session.
The Council will continue to meet at the Marshall County Building, but will convene at 6:00 p.m.
