Culver Amends Ordinance to Allow Alcohol in Town Park

culver-town-hallThe Culver Town Council has decided to allow alcohol in the town park for certain occasions.

During a marathon meeting Tuesday night, Council members revisited an ordinance that would allow alcoholic beverages in the park during special permitted events.

Culver previously operated under an ordinance disallowing alcohol in the park, but the regular occurrence of community events in the space prompted the town to modernize the law. In addition to disallowing alcohol in the space, Culver also prevented individuals from possessing open containers of alcohol in public spaces.

The ordinance amendment will now allow event organizers to receive permitting for the distribution of alcohol in the park once Town Council approval has been granted. For instance, Taste of Culver is held annually, but this is the first year the event is being held in the Town Park. The event will be able to obtain a permit and allow patrons to drink during the event’s operating hours.

The state of Indiana still requires that such events cordon off where alcohol will be served during an event.

The Culver Town Council approved the measure on first reading at their previous meeting. The ordinance amendment was approved on second and third reading, Tuesday night.
