The Marshall County Emergency Management Agency Department is looking to update its Hazard Mitigation Plan, and they’re hoping to receive grant funds to do it.

During Monday morning’s Marshall County Commissioners meeting, EMA Director Clyde Avery made the request to apply for the grant. If awarded, Marshall County will receive about $22-thousand to help with the planning and updating phase for the revamped plan.

Avery says the County would be expected to contribute a little more than $5-thousand to meet the matching requirement for the grant, but there is an exception.

“Which means that as long as we have planning meetings, and we have representatives from the various jurisdictions attend those planning meetings, we can offset the cost share match with their time at those meetings,” says Avery.

Marshall County’s Hazard Mitigation Plan officially expired about one year ago.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency says the plans seek to eliminate long-term risk to human life. Creating a plan is considered key for maintaining eligibility through certain federal assistance programs.

Monday morning’s Commissioner’s meeting also brought with it a pre-announcement from Marshall County Economic Development Director Jerry Chavez. He says the Town of Bourbon will have a major event next Tuesday.

“Unfortunately I can’t give you anymore details than that,” says Chavez. “Hopefully that’s a little bit of a tease, a teaser, to show up on that date.” Attracting companies, expansions, or other major business decisions is typically the theme of such economic development announcements.

The Commissioners also received quarterly reports from several departments.
