Opening Day for County Office Brings List of Candidates

vote-3The first day candidates can file to run for office in November’s General Election put several names on the ballot.

This year, several county elected offices are up for grabs. Applications to run for the office were accepted starting on Wednesday and will continue through February 5th. Competitive races will go to primary in May. Other seats will be finalized in November.

According to information provided by the Marshall County Clerk’s office, Bill Cleavenger is now seeking the Treasurer’s seat. John Grolich has filed for Coroner, and Rex Gilliland has submitted his candidacy for Marshall County Surveyor.

A few county commissioner seats are also up for grabs with Mike Delp applying to run for the commission’s District 2 seat. Kevin Overmyer has decided to seek re-election for the District 3 seat.

On the other side of county government, several At-Large seats are available on the county council. Incumbents Steve Harper and Jon VanVactor have stated their intent to seek re-election. Toni Hutchings and Jack Roose have also filed to run for the office.
