A member of the Marshall County Council has decided to challenge the incumbent for a seat on the Marshall County Board of Commissioners.
Bill Githens currently serves as the County Council’s District 2 representative. His seat is not up for re-election this year, but comes due in 2018.
Githens announced his intentions Monday morning to run for the Commission’s District 3 seat. That office is currently held by Commission President Kevin Overmyer. In his statement, Githens said he believes new leadership is needed on the County’s Board of Commissioners.
Because the two candidates for the seat are registered Republicans, the office will head to a primary run-off in May. The winner of the seat will move on to the November General Election.
Githens noted in his statement that he looked forward to working with the County Council for the remainder of the year.
In other candidate filing news, Jim Masterson of Plymouth filed yesterday for an at-large seat on the Marshall County Council.
