Fewer Hoosiers died in fires in 2015 compared to the year before. That’s according to data released by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security Division of Fire and Building Safety.
They say 73 people died from fire-related causes in 2015. That’s down from 84 the previous year. State Fire Marshal Jim Greeson praised local first responders for both protecting residents and teaching them about the importance of fire safety. The IDHS also highlighted work being done to make smoke detectors more easily available. These include partnerships with the American Red Cross and State Farm to provide working smoke alarms to homes throughout the state.
