A Plymouth student has been selected for the 2016 Indiana Junior All-State Jazz Band. Hugh Smith, an eighth-grader at Lincoln Junior High School, will be playing the trumpet when the band performs Friday, January 15 in Fort Wayne, as part of the Indiana Music Education Association’s 2016 State Conference. The band is made up of seventh-through-ninth graders from around the state.
Smith says he found out about the opportunity to audition for the band just one day before applications were due. That gave him just 24 hours to learn the required pieces of music, prepare the rest of his audition materials, record them, and send them in.
