Former Marshall County Council President Matt Hassel formally handed over his gavel during the council’s meeting Monday.
He passed the gavel to Vice President Don Morrison who led the meeting, but the council decided to wait before officially choosing a new president. “Our first thing on the agenda was reorganization of the board,” Morrison said. “However, we’re going to wait until we get a new board member before we reorganize. That way, everybody has a shot at it.”
That new board member’s expected to be chosen next Tuesday in a Republican Party caucus. Hassel resigned from the council late last month in order to take the position of Marshall County Sheriff.
