The Culver Town Council has decided to follow the recommendations of the Marshall County government.
During last night’s meeting, the Town Council considered an “Unsafe Buildings” ordinance. That ordinance was approved on first reading earlier this month. The ordinance establishes a new process designed to speed-up remediation for property deemed unsafe by county or local building inspectors.
Few comments were made on the ordinance during Tuesday night’s meeting by the Culver Town Council.
Under the ordinance language, a hearing board is established consisting of building experts and representatives of the community in question. Marshall County has already established a similar board, but expressed a desire to see the changes countywide.
The Culver Town Council approved their version of the ordinance on both second and third reading on Tuesday night.
According to the discussion, the changes will have an effective date of January 1st of 2016, but it could be implemented as soon as 30 days following passage.
