AAA Raises Awareness of Driver Education During Teen Driver Safety Week

Triple-AAAThe AAA Hoosier Motor Club is working to keep new drivers safe.

This week is Teen Driver Safety Week, and AAA is spreading awareness of the importance of new driver education. They say motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of death for teenagers in the United States.

A big problem for new drivers is distraction, from cell phones as well as other young people in the car. The state of Indiana’s taking steps to solve this problem. In an update to the state’s licensing law last July, drivers under the age of 21 can’t use a mobile device while for any purpose while driving except to make an emergency 911 call.

AAA is also working to improve new driver education through its Approved Driving School Network program. They also launched an online course earlier this year designed to be an alternative to attending 30 hours of classroom instruction. For more information, visit
