Officers from several area law enforcement agencies assisted in the apprehension of a man at a Koontz Lake residence on an out-of-county robbery warrant. They responded to a home in the 7700 block of Tippecanoe Drive this morning to arrest 30-year-old Cody Cooley on a warrant from Dearborn County. A news release from the Starke County Sheriff’s Office indicates they spotted him through a sliding door trying to hide in an upstairs closet.
Cooley reportedly ignored numerous commands by officers to come out of the closet. That’s when Starke County Sheriff’s K9 Terror was sent in and apprehended him.
The officers brought Cooley downstairs and say he took off while waiting for medical attention. He was nabbed less than 100 yards away behind a residence on Kickapoo. He was taken by ambulance to IU Health Starke Hospital, treated and released.
Cooley is charged with resisting law enforcement locally and will be transported to Dearborn County to face the robbery charge. The Starke County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Knox, Hamlet and Koontz Lake Police Departments.
