Local Emergency Management Agencies are giving a few safety reminders prior to the Independence Day Holiday.
Marshall County EMA Director Clyde Avery says he’s working to spread awareness about some of the dangers and laws surrounding the use of fireworks.
Avery says that purchasing fireworks from a licensed dealer can go a long way to encouraging the safe operation of the fireworks. Using a clear area to detonate the fireworks can also prevent damage to structures and avoid fires.
Those who have purchased fireworks in the past know that there are often duds in the mix. Although it could be considered money lost, Avery says that individuals should never relight a dud. By avoiding dud fireworks, individuals can avoid certain health hazards.
