The Town of Culver continues the search for a new EMS Director.
Interviews have been conducted with potential candidates for the open position. The Town has been considering making a hire after experiencing problems staffing volunteers.
The Culver-Union Township EMS Department was previous made up of volunteers, but Culver has been losing them to neighboring communities who pay their EMT’s. The Town hopes that by offering wages, they can better retain employees and more easily schedule shifts.
A Standard Operating Procedure was recently adopted by the Town, along with an ordinance that breaks with the volunteer Culver-Union Township Volunteer EMS Department.
Competitive compensation for staff has also been compared with neighboring communities to ensure the EMT’s stay in Culver.
According to officials with the Town, an announcement on the hire of an EMS Director should be made in the coming weeks.
