The Marshall County Economic Development Corporation will be looking for additional money to aid in their efforts.
The non-profit partnership was developed in 2007, but is now turning its focus toward expanding its efforts. According to a press release, the company is launching “Invest in Marshall County,” a four-year capital campaign to help raise about $200-thousand annually.
Executive Director Jerry Chavez says it’s a more aggressive approach to economic development.
“It is one where we increase the number of deals that we see and then hopefully that translates, if it’s done right, if we pay attention to how we execute the plan, we’ll have opportunities to have more companies set up shop in our county,” says Chavez.
MCEDC’s Board of Directors recently adopted a strategic plan to help guide economic development activities in Marshall County over the next five to 10 years. A focus has been placed on business retention and expansion in the area.
Since its inception, Marshall County Economic Development has aided in the attraction or expansion of around 1,500 jobs – more than 500 jobs will likely result from projects in 2014.
Due to its relative success, around 20 businesses have already shown an interest in giving to the organization’s capital campaign. Chavez says a rising tide can help all companies.
“When we say we’re going to go and diversify the economy, we’re going to try to strengthen that as well so in times where there are dips and valleys, we try to level that off,” says Chavez.
The board of directors says economic development undertakings are critical because they believe the spotlight is on Indiana.
Expansions and capital investment are expected to continue in Marshall County in 2015.
