A council member in the Town of Argos has decided to resign his position.
Now, the Marshall County Democrats are on the lookout for a possible replacement. Dave Walker served as the Vice President of the Town Council in Argos, but according to sources with knowledge of the situation, he has decided to move out of the area at the end of the month.
Marshall County Democratic Party Chairman Jim Smart says there are important issues Argos is facing, including a revitalization project.
“You’d want someone there who is going to make some good judgment decisions based off the hard work others have put into it, I think,” says Smart.
According to a press release, the party is accepting applications for the seat.
Because Walker won the seat as a Democrat, the now-open seat will have an individual of the same party appointed. A selection process that includes reviewing Résumés and conducting interviews will begin in May.
The party says they are not soliciting for the position at this time, but have received interest from possible candidates.
Smart says the party is interested in someone who can commit to the position.
“I think it’s owed to the people in Argos that you want some stability there,” says Smart. “Dave was well liked and hopefully we’ll find a candidate that will do as stellar a job as he has.”
The appointee will serve out the remainder of Walker’s term. The seat is up for election in the fall, meaning whoever is appointed may want to consider running for the seat again.
Applicants must be registered to vote in the Town of Argos. A letter of interest should be sent to the Marshall County Democrats by May 8th.
