MARSHALL COUNTY — Laura Walls, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Marshall County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDC) updated the County Council on workforce development during the regular meeting in May. She brought with her Lorna Shively, Business Consultant for Fulton, Kosciusko, and Marshall County WorkOne to present the February 2022 Labor Market Review to shed light on some of the challenges facing employers to find employees.

Plymouth School Board Updated on Career and College Readiness

The Plymouth School Board got an update last week on the Class of 2017. Of the high school’s 282 graduates, 69 percent of them had a solid plan, according to Director of Guidance Aimee Portteus. Forty-six percent of Plymouth graduates now attend a four-year college, 16 percent went to a two-year college, and others planned to pursue technical training or enter the military.

City of Plymouth and WorkOne Team Up to Host End-of-Year Job Fair

Marshall County individuals currently seeking employment or hoping to secure a new occupation should attend the local job fair on Thursday, December 7th.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Plymouth Wesleyan Church on Michigan Street.

WorkOne and the City of Plymouth are teaming up to host this end-of-the-year opportunity which will feature a variety of representatives from local businesses. These employers are eager to show citizens what they have to offer to prospective employees. INDOT Hiring Seasonal Help

The Indiana Department of Transportation is getting ready for winter. The agency is teaming up with WorkOne of northwest Indiana to hire seasonal maintenance crew members and snow plow drivers. Positions are available across the entire northwest Indiana district, which includes Starke, Pulaski, Marshall, Fulton, St. Joseph, LaPorte, Porter, Lake, Newton, Jasper, White, Cass and Carroll Counties. Ancilla College Announces Summer CNA Course

Ancilla College is offering a Certified Nursing Assistant course this summer. Graduates who pass the Indiana State Department of Health CNA test are state-certified to work as nurse’s aides in long-term care facilities, home health and hospice groups and assisted living facilities.

Prospective enrollees must pass a physical, drug screen and background check. The program consists of 32 hours of classroom instruction and 75 hours of clinicals. Courses will meet Monday and Wednesday nights from 6 until 10 p.m. starting June 8th. Clinicals will take place on Saturdays from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Students will take the state certification exam after they complete the course requirements. Continue reading
