“U.S. News and World Report” Releases 2017 High School Rankings

Several local high schools are ranked among the best in Indiana by “U.S. News and World Report.” The publication reviewed more than 28,000 schools nationwide for its 2017 rankings, and 136 schools in Indiana made their “Best High Schools” rankings. The publication ranks schools based on their performance on state-required tests and how well they prepare students for college.

All of the local schools on the list offer students an opportunity to take Advance Placement ® (AP) coursework and exams. Continue reading →

Enjoy Falloween at John Glenn High School

Head to John Glenn High School this weekend for the annual Falloween Fest. It features a carnival, food, games and family-friendly activities. John Glenn High School and John Glenn School Corporation organizations, along with community and civic groups and churches all take part. Plymouth High School Ranked Among Best in Indiana by U.S. News & World Report

A local high school ranks among the top-performing in the state, according to a national magazine. The 2015 U.S. News & World Report Best High School rankings evaluate students on college readiness. Plymouth High School ranks 15th in the state on the list and earns a silver medal. Local School Named Four Star School

A local high school is among 281 statewide schools designated as Four Star Schools for the 2013-2014 school year.

Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz announced Tuesday that John Glenn High School was recognized as a Four Star School.

Four Star Schools must be in the top 25th percentile on ISTEP English/Language Arts and Math scores. They must also earn an “A” in the state’s accountability rankings and be accredited by the Indiana Department of Education. In addition, the requirement of 95 percent student participation rate has to be met.

Recovering Addict Shares Story With Local Students

With sobriety, anything is possible. That’s the message addict turned triathlete Todd Crandell is sharing with students in Starke and Marshall Counties during Red Ribbon Week. He first tried alcohol when he was 13. Crandall says his life was” normal on the outside” but he was pretty emotionally distraught due to his Mom’s suicide 10 years earlier due to her struggles with addiction.

“I had a giant void that I was looking for something to fill it with, and unfortunately trying alcohol at age 13 was the catalyst for the next 13 years of destruction,” Crandall said.

He says he used “anything I could get my hands on” to try to numb the pain. Continue reading →
