Financial Aid Workshops to be Held Next Weekend for College Goal Sunday

Students planning to attend college next fall will be able to get some free help with some of the paperwork next weekend. As part of College Goal Sunday, financial aid professionals around the state will be hosting workshops on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It needs to be filed by April 15, in order for students to qualify for federal and state grants, scholarships, and student loans.

Secretary of Career Connections and Talent Highlights State’s Job Training Initiatives

Indiana’s Secretary of Career Connections and Talent is touting the state’s workforce training initiatives. During a visit to Knox Wednesday, Secretary Blair Milo discussed the Workforce Ready Grant that’s part of the Next Level Jobs program. “For anybody that’s over the age of 18, you can go and get a hundred-percent-tuition-free career certificate at Ivy Tech or Vincennes or the other providers through Next Level Jobs,” she explained. “The only thing that would disqualify someone from being able to utilize that is if you have a degree already, so it’s not means-tested or anything else.”

More High School Graduates Prepared for College, According to Commission for Higher Education

More Indiana high school graduates are prepared for college, but the Indiana Commission for Higher Education says there’s still more work to be done. State officials say in spite of recent improvements, nearly a fifth of recent high school graduates are still not ready to take college courses that count toward their degrees.
