The Town of Culver is prepared to move forward with some technical assistance for its water and wastewater utilities.
The community was approached by the Alliance of Indiana Rural Water out of Franklin, Indiana at their Tuesday meeting to discuss data point monitoring. Culver recently upgraded its facilities and implemented a utility rate increase to help pay for the upgrades.
Marshall County’s unemployment rate continues to drop. The county’s July rate was 3.6 percent, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. That’s a decline of 0.3 percent from the same period last year and a 0.2-percent decline from June 2016. Continue reading

The Town of Culver has agreed to sign a contract with Marshall County to provide dispatch services to the community.
It was decided earlier this year that Marshall County would share the cost burden with its local communities and Townships given the cost of new equipment. A board has been formed to oversee the centralized dispatch service and determine its usage and cost sharing methods.

The best way to help victims of the natural disasters like the Kokomo tornadoes or the catastrophic Baton Rouge flooding is to contribute financially to a reputable charity. The American Red Cross estimates flood recovery efforts will cost nearly $30 million. As of Monday they had only received $7.8 million in donations and pledges. Red Cross volunteers are already in central Indiana providing emergency services in the aftermath of yesterday’s tornadoes.
Community Crossings Funds were announced for Northern Indiana on Wednesday and Marshall County has walked away with several communities among the recipients.

Town Council members received an update Tuesday night after a meeting last week between Town Management and the Marshall County Planning and Building Office. Neighboring communities in Marshall County have been using an online permit system for almost one year to improve efficiency for contractors and local residents.
The blank brick wall on the Garro Street side of the Marshall County Museum is now adorned with an 8 foot by 8 foot barn quilt square representing the state and nation. Marshall County’s latest Indiana Bicentennial Legacy Project contribution will be unveiled during a ceremony this afternoon in downtown Plymouth. Marshall County Tourism coordinated the Marshall County Barn Quit Trail. It’s a series of large murals painted in a variety of quilt patterns on barns, businesses and public spaces throughout the county. Organizers say the trail celebrates the history of agriculture, the time-honored tradition of quilting, the community’s passion for art, community pride and Hoosier Hospitality.
