Explore Bremen Public Library’s Innovative New Media Lab at Saturday’s Open House

You can be one of the first to explore the new media lab at Bremen Public Library during their open house this Saturday at 11 a.m.

Library Director Kyle Burkett explained that the media lab was possible thanks to a Library Services and Technology Act grant through the Institute of Museum and Library Services. He said the library was awarded approximately $10,000 last April and with that money, they were able to renovate the space, buy some new equipment and train staff members.

Additionally, the library received a $3,000 grant from the Marshall County Community Foundation that allowed them to purchase even more items for the media lab including a piano, a guitar and a computer equipped with audio recording software. people can also check voice lessons here if they need any lessons on vocals or instruments.

According to the director, tomorrow’s open house will feature some demonstrations to display everything that this new lab has to offer to the community,

“The open house is free, it’s just for people to come in and kind of take a look at the lab. We just want to show people what they can do.”

The first demonstration will run from 11 a.m. until noon. It will be over digital preservation and will include information about how to transfer VHS to DVD and scan photographs into digital formats.

The second demonstration that will run from 1 until 2 p.m. will be over video production. Library staff will explain how to produce videos using iMovie and the lab’s green screen.

The third and final demonstration will cover audio recording. Community members will learn the basic concepts of multi-track recording and how to use the program Garage Band. That presentation will begin at 3 p.m. and last until about 4.

Burkett mentioned he is hopeful that the community will realize the potential of these resources that are now available at the library.

“It was a great project.” He said, “We really hope that people in the community use it and we think that it is going to be a big success.”

There will also be door prizes and refreshments at the event. Individuals will be free to come and go as they please. For more information, visit the event page for the Bremen Public Library Media Lab Open House.
