A Traffic Stop Brings an OWI Arrest

On Jan. 27 at 8:12 p.m. ET, officers with the Plymouth Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding 69 mph in a 35 mph zone on Western Ave.

The driver was later identified as Jose Torres, 49, of Plymouth. It was determined during the stop that Torres had three warrants for his arrest, one out of Marshall County, St. Joseph County, and Elkhart County. During the stop, police say it was determined that Torres had been drinking and driving. There were also open containers in the vehicle, according to the report.

A standardized Field Sobriety test was given. Torres was given a certified test, which reportedly showed that Mr. Torres had a .145 BAC. Torres was booked into the Marshall County Jail on his warrants and on preliminary charges of for driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated with a prior conviction, and driving while intoxicated endangerment.

Suspects are considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
