The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department received a call regarding a train vs. semi crash on Linden Road south of State Road 10 in Argos Monday, November 18 at 10:17 a.m. ET.
Police say the initial report stated the semi was unoccupied. Upon arrival on the scene, officers met with the driver of the semi, Kenneth Emling, 68, who stated he was traveling south on Linden Road to make a delivery around the corner, and his trailer got hung up on the tracks. Emling said he attempted to air the truck and trailer up as high as he could to clear the tracks but was unsuccessful, according to the report.
Emling then called the emergency number posted on the crossing arm and reported the semi was stuck. Moments later, Emling said he heard a train horn, and he ran south away from the semi before it was struck by the train.
No injuries were reported. The semi and trailer were totaled and according to the railroad company, the engine was also totaled.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Argos EMS, and Argos Fire.
