An officer with the Plymouth Police Department conducted a traffic stop on U.S. 30 and Oak Drive for a vehicle that was traveling 75 mph in a posted 50 mph zone Sunday, October 6 at 2:30 a.m. ET.
During the traffic stop, the driver was identified as Brandon Mora-Reyes, 19, of Ft. Wayne. A passenger was identified as Matthew D. Casteneda, 19, of Ft. Wayne. The officer reportedly identified signs of impairment from both Mora-Reyes and Casteneda. Casteneda was taken into custody after he was found to be under the influence of alcohol, according to the report.
Police say Mora-Reyes was also found to be under the influence and was transported to the hospital for a chemical test and then to the Marshall County Jail along with Casteneda.
Casteneda was charged with preliminary misdemeanor illegal consumption, and Mora-Reyes with preliminary misdemeanor operating a vehicle while intoxicated-endangering, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and illegal consumption.
Formal charges will be determined by the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office.
Suspects are considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
