Plymouth Community School Board Takes Next Step on Budget for 2025

The Plymouth Community School Board talked about budgets again at their meeting on Tuesday.

Steven Boyer reviewed the numbers for the board for the upcoming year. The plan for the coming year will include a payment of just under $5.9 million in debt service, which will bring the tax levy on that line item down .11 percent, $28 million in the Education Fund which is money that comes from the State of Indiana based on school enrollment, $9.75 million in the Operations Fund, just over $5.5 million that will be provided by the school’s operations fund tax levy that will be set at 4 percent higher than a year ago.

The total school budget will be just over $43.6 million of which just over $11 million will be raised in the tax levy.

The state periodically allows for schools to appeal for extra money in the tax levy for special items, i.e., this year the state will allow school corporations to seek higher levies for school buses due to the drastic rise in the cost for replacement buses.

Boyer told the board that Plymouth Schools would not be seeking any extra funds for buses this year.

The state also allows a transfer of up to 15 percent of the Education Fund to the Operations Fund if there is a shortfall.

The school will now finalize budget forms and prepare specific capital projects plans for 2025 that exceed $10,000 as well as the bus replacement plan for the coming year.
