Project Update for Plymouth School Board

Plymouth Community School Board members heard an update from Director of Facilities Dave Schoof on several projects being completed as the school year gets underway.

Much of the construction over the summer centered on improvements at the Washington Discovery Academy where significant drainage and paving projects have been under way for the past several months.

Schoof told the board that the project began with a major drainage tile replacement in the front of the school. That part of the project was started later than anticipated by the contractor and was further hampered by the large amount of rain that fell during the period of construction.

Over 160 loads of fill dirt were brought in and work on new curbs was also begun at that time.
Schoof said that the new paving curbs and sidewalks are essentially complete. He told the board that one section of sidewalk remains to be completed on the east side of the facility along with final grading and landscaping.

The project has a price tag of approximately $979,100 but the final dollar amount was still undetermined, pending a change order for additional drainage tile to address the water table issues on the west side of the property.

Work has begun on the new Marshall County Career Innovation Center with crews cutting concrete to provide for underground plumbing needs in the Culinary Foods and Early Childhood Education areas. HVAC and fire suppression units were also underway in the Precision Machining area.

Phase one of the project includes the renovations to the main Plymouth High School building and the old Service Center building has a price tag of $3,004,200.

Phase two will include the creation of the Early Childhood Education area at a cost of $491,698.67, and phase three which will include an automotive technology center and a greenhouse will cost $4,019,040.

Schoof told the board that the New Market Tax Credit funding has closed and those contracts have transferred from Plymouth Community School Corporation to Marshall County Career Innovation Center.
