The Plymouth Common Council recently discussed electric vehicles and a reimbursable grant opportunity.
The City of Plymouth was approved for a grant in the amount of $225,367 to purchase three electric pick up trucks and chargers for all three as part of a pilot test program to introduce electric vehicles to fleets and conduct real world testing on maintenance costs.
The match for the grant is that the City of Plymouth will install the chargers using their own labor rather than hiring an outside contractor and paying them to install the chargers. A periodic report of performance will be required for data collection.
The vehicles will be used for the Waste Water Department, the Street Department and the third for the Building Commissioner.
No official action was required by the Council. The additional appropriations will be advertised and a public hearing will be held at the next Council meeting Monday, August 12 at 6:30 p.m. ET. If formally approved during that meeting, the City of Plymouth will first pay for the vehicles and will then be reimbursed.
The hope is that it will be cost effective to operate the electric vehicles and will result in overall cost savings to the City of Plymouth.
