The Bourbon Town Council will hear the 2025 Budget during their next meeting on September 10th; two weeks later on September 24th will be the Budget Adoption.
In other news from the council meeting, the Triton School Corporation requested signage on Thayer St. regarding parking. Superintendent Jeremy Riffle wanted the sign to restrict parking in a certain pick up and drop off area during certain times Monday through Friday. Police Chief Bill Martin informed Riffle that there is really no power to enforce that until an ordinance is approved by the Council. The Council will consider safety concerns to the students and the possibility of approving an ordinance after exploring the challenge further.
During patron comments, residents discussed concerns regarding the increasing feral / stray cat population along with requesting the town to establish and enforce an ordinance clearly defining cat ownership regulations including the responsibility to keep cats off other people’s property and to have shots up to date including rabies vaccinations. There was also discussion about a possible donor funded program to spay / neuter cats that roam to limit unwanted population growth. No formal action was taken.
The Bourbon Fall Fest is scheduled for September 28, Trick or Treat for has been approved for October 31, and the Christmas Tree Lighting is scheduled for November 30th.
The Bourbon Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a Community Give Back Open House on September 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET. There will be free drinks, hot dogs, fire truck rides and a dunk tank.
