A Plymouth man was arrested following a traffic stop conducted by officers from the Plymouth Police Department Thursday, July 18 just before 1 a.m. ET.
Officers observed a vehicle northbound on Michigan Street from Jefferson Street with only its driver-side headlight illuminated and none of the rear lights illuminated. The vehicle then turned west of Harrison Street. As officers caught up to the vehicle, police say the driver turned on the rear lights. The vehicle still did not have an illuminated passenger-side headlamp or a rear license plate light, according to the report.
A traffic stop was initiated in the 500 block of West Harrison Street.
The driver of the vehicle, 26-year-old Alberto Villegas-Leanos, of Plymouth, reportedly stated that he did not have a valid driver’s license. Police say a check showed him to have a status of suspended/prior. Officers detected a strong odor of marijuana in the vehicle, and an amount of suspected marijuana was located, according to the report.
Villegas-Leanos was placed under arrest and transported to the Marshall County Jail on preliminary charges of driving while suspended and possession of marijuana.
Formal charges will be determined by the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office.
Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
