The Plymouth Redevelopment Commission will look at an investment in a Marshall County Lifelong Learning Network project in their next meeting.
Construction is underway on the Marshall County Career Innovation Center and while the capital funding required for the bricks and mortar has been secured, Allie Shook, Executive Director of LLN, came before the board seeking support for the “soft costs”, such as furnishings for the building. Shook presented a proposal for $250,000 toward lab tables, chairs, television monitors, and some specialty items such as refrigerators for medication in the veterinary science area.
Shook told the board that big-ticket manufacturing items and machinery had been secured previously.
When the center is complete on the campus at Plymouth High School it will house career training for students interested in pursuing those studies and adults wishing to further themselves in their careers or obtain new skills.
Among the offerings at the new building will be Culinary Science, Welding, Early Childhood Education, Veterinary Science, Agriculture, health careers, Building Trades, and Criminal Justice.
The Commission voted unanimously to have city attorney Jeff Houin start the process of amending the project list to add the donation to the Center. The board decided to add the project to TIF #3 (U.S. 30/Pine Road Economic Development Area) since the available balance is the highest.
The proposal will be voted on at the August meeting.
