Deputies from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department recently conducted two traffic stops that resulted in drug possession arrests.
A Marshall County Sheriff’s Department deputy conducted a traffic stop Saturday, July 20 at 12:49 a.m. ET on Pioneer Drive near Lincoln Highway for a moving violation.
During the investigation, officers discovered the driver, 38-year-old Kurt T. De La Rosa, to be in possession of marijuana, according to the report. An Indiana Conservation Officer who had stopped to assist discovered De La Rosa to reportedly be in possession of items related to a protected species.
De La Rosa was transported to the Marshall County Jail on a preliminary charge of possession of marijuana. The DNR is conducting a separate investigation.
Later that day a Marshall County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop at 11:21 p.m. ET on 4th Road west of Fir Road for a moving violation.
During the investigation, police say it was discovered that the driver of the vehicle, 25-year-old Jairo Alejandro Ponce-Ulloa, did not have a valid license. The deputy also reportedly discovered marijuana inside the vehicle.
Ponce-Ulloa and a passenger, 30-year-old Lopez Tapia, were transported to the Marshall County Jail on a preliminary charge of possession of marijuana. Ponce-Ulloa was also booked on a preliminary charge of operating a motor vehicle without ever receiving a license.
Formal charges will be determined in each case by the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office.
Suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
