Officers with the Plymouth Police Department were dispatched to 421 S. Michigan Street Thursday, May 30 after a caller reported that a man pulled up behind them in a vehicle and appeared to be intoxicated.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the man, later identified as Nickolas Riley, 58, of Valparaiso, stopped in the middle of the roadway. While talking to Riley, police say officers detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle. It was later determined that Riley had been drinking and appeared highly intoxicated, according to the report.
Police say Riley was placed under arrest and transported to the hospital for a certified test, that reportedly showed a BAC of .384.
Riley was then arrested and transported to Marshall County Jail where he was booked on a preliminary charge of driving while intoxicated above .15.
Formal charges will be determined by the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office.
Suspects are considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
